restored condition! On of 200 build cars!
The four-seater BMW 2002 Cabriolet with fully retractable soft top was built in 1971 by Baur in Stuttgart on behalf of BMW and is today considered one of the rarest variants of the legendary 02 series. With a curb weight of approximately 960 kilograms, it largely shares the technical specifications of the saloon, while offering the unique appeal of open-top driving.
The full convertible was produced for one year only – 1971 – and was available either as the 1600-2 with a 1.6-liter engine producing 85 hp, or as the 2002 with a 2.0-liter engine delivering 100 hp. Of the total production of just 1,892 units, only around 200 examples were built as the more powerful 2002 version, making it an exceptionally rare model.
The example offered here, finished in classic beige, was comprehensively restored by its previous owner, a long-standing client from Northern Germany, with great attention to quality and originality. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that this car is one of the earliest produced examples – specifically number 3 of the approximately 200 BMW 2002 Cabriolets built.
Accompanied by a BMW certificate of authenticity and delivered with a fresh TÜV inspection, this 2002 Cabriolet presents itself in excellent condition today. A highly collectible and rare BMW model – and a true classic destined to retain its special status for years to come.
