Restored condition! Very well documented! 6.3!
Some automobiles are not simply purchased, but collected out of genuine passion. This was certainly the case for the current owner of this 1970 Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3. His long-standing dream was to bring together three generations of Mercedes-Benz luxury saloons, each equipped with the most powerful engine available in its respective model range. With a W126 560 SEL, a W116 450 SEL 6.9 and the W109 300 SEL 6.3 offered here, he fulfilled this ambition and created a very special collection, with each vehicle representing a distinct chapter in Mercedes-Benz history.
The 300 SEL 6.3 offered here was first registered in Germany on 10 December 1970 and has changed ownership only twice over the past decades. This remarkable ownership history can be traced through the original vehicle documents, which have been carefully preserved to this day.
During its long history, the car was completely repainted by its second owner. After the current owner acquired the Mercedes-Benz shortly before the beginning of its restoration, the vehicle was returned to its original factory colour as part of the restoration work carried out in 2026/2027. Since then, the car has been driven only occasionally and has primarily been cared for and preserved as part of the collection.
Particularly noteworthy is the exceptional attention to detail with which the current owner has continued to document the vehicle's history. From the day of acquisition, every single journey has been recorded by hand in a personal logbook. This thoughtful tradition reflects the special significance this Mercedes-Benz has always held for its owner, representing far more than simply a means of transportation.
The extensive collection of historical documents also tells the story of this remarkable automobile. Alongside the original German registration document (Pappbrief) and further historical registration papers, which allow the previous owners to be traced, the car comes with numerous period invoices, a vehicle valuation report from 2017, various technical inspection certificates (TÜV reports), and additional maintenance and repair records. Together, these documents provide a fascinating insight into the vehicle's past.
The Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 itself occupies a very special place in the marque's history. When Mercedes-Benz installed the powerful 6.3-litre V8 engine from the prestigious Mercedes-Benz 600 into the comparatively compact W109 body in the late 1960s, the result was one of the most impressive high-performance luxury saloons of its era. Combining exceptional performance with luxurious appointments and an unmistakable character, the 300 SEL 6.3 established standards that continue to resonate far beyond its time.
This particular example combines the fascination of one of Mercedes-Benz's most significant classics with a personal collector's story, a remarkably limited number of previous owners, and an extensive collection of documentation preserved over several decades. It is an automobile whose history has not only been recorded in its original paperwork, but has also been continued with genuine appreciation and dedication to the present day.
