Description

California Sunshine State Los Angeles, racing driver Vasek Polak opened here the first Porsche dealership in America and handed over this Porsche 356 C to its first owner. From then on, the car was nicknamed "Charly" and he was cared for as if it were his own family member. All inspections were stamped by the first owner at Vasek Polak's Porsche Autohaus and are on file. The owner renewed his California registration every year and in return received a so-called "Title" every year, on which the respective year is indicated. All "Titles" valid until the end of 2001 were in the name of the first owner and are complete. Not a single ride remained undocumented. The first owner, Mr. W., kept a logbook in which he handwrote the current mileage at every gas station stop. Also tire changes and the like are noted. Attached are also the years and the date. The original checkbook is also preserved, as well as the Porsche owner's manual and all documents around the car, information material, magazines from back then, the original license plates from Los Angeles, some smaller spare parts, original light bulbs, the original Porsche 356 key case "Key Fob", the original tool bag, and much more. As an extra, the car was equipped with headrests, which are actually not headrests, but "snooze rolls" as they were called back then. Another extra is preserved in the glove box and actually nowhere to be found: the glycerine bottle. This was used to lubricate the sealing rubbers and keep them supple. This is now no longer full, but still included after all these years.

The car was subsequently sold to Belgium in 2002, where it was only moved a few miles for family reasons. The current mileage on the speedometer and the last entries of the logbook from the first owner, Mr. W. prove that there were not many movements in the meantime. In 2011, the car passed to an acquaintance of the owners and he sold it in early 2012 to the last owner until now. The latter received the car in an unrestored condition, although the paintwork had been renewed and also the battery plate, but otherwise nothing indicated the intervention of a workshop. The complete interior was original and also otherwise everything on the car was Matching Numbers up to all body parts like the doors and hoods. Even the rims bear the conclusive date of manufacture. The sound deadening mats in the engine compartment were still original and looked good. As a result of some paint work on the underbody, many parts like the engine and electrics were disassembled, cleaned, partially overhauled and re-installed. With all these measures everywhere the extremely pleasing and for 356 rather not self-evident picture presented itself: nowhere rust and no foreign welds except the original ones! The sheet metal is in factory condition! All wiring, the most important electrical cables, all seals of the car, from the windows to engine/transmission seals are renewed. As a precaution, the car has had a new fuel pump, new starter, of course the shocks are new, the exhaust, etc. Every mechanical part of the axles has been cleaned and repainted.

The most important criterion for all the restoration work was to keep the car in its originality due to the documented history of the car. Therefore, individual parts such as the Bosch horns were not replaced, but cleaned and repainted. For the painting, the car was completely disassembled, the doors were completely painted, including the inside. Only the lower edges of the welds showed some rust, which was removed as a precaution.

Conclusion

An excellently documented piece of history from the early years of Porsche. Originality knows no bounds here and lets the sports car great-grandfather shine after almost 60 years just as it did on the first day of its delivery.
